Talking Power extending mirror clutch adjustment

Here is a quick fix for the GM extending mirrors that just don't seem to work, or are just slow to respond when cold.

First tilt the mirror all the way up, then with a small pick or screwdriver, go in under the center of the bottom of the glass. There is a little plastic tab that keeps the mirror in place...depress the tab and push the mirror glass up slightly to remove it.

Next you will find the mount plate for the mirror, there are 3, T10 Torx screws that hold it in place. Remove them and gently wiggle the mounting plate to remove it.

Then remove 3 more torx screws that retain the cover for the clutch and drive, the cover will come off and expose the clutch. Tighten the nut on the clutch about 1-2 turns, this will increase the tension and make the mirror move more consisently.

Assemble everything in the reverse order, you can also put some light grease on the slides just before you re-install the glass as they are pretty easy to access...

Thanks for the information and images. I started in by trying to remove the mirror cover. Wrong move. Snapped the (2) T20 screws even after soaking them with Kroil for a week.
Why would GM use a steel screw in aluminum I am back on track, thanks again
