I'm pretty sure I can crank the melting pump manually to prime right?

not unless you have the front cover off, crank gear off and plug the left side oil galley.

Correct. The motor will turn over for a solid 2-3 minutes before firing. Use a copious amount of assembly lube and it'll be fine.

How do I crank my starter without delivering fuel?

There wont be any fuel in the rails and it will take a few minutes to build enough pressure to fire the injectors.

Awesome that's just as good as any other way..I'll do that and drive it for an hour with mobile take a sample an drop the oil and filter then go 500,1000,3000 taking samples each time. Then I'll run hydrotex 15w40.

leave the bail connectors off at the engine if you are worried about the engine firing. you can still crank and no injectors will fire

I used delvac and a bottle of Lucas Break In oil. I made a adaptor that went to my turbo feed line (s400) and got a 2.5 gallon sprayer from home depot. Pumped in all the oil with that. Worked well.

I run Shaffers oil and Custom Auto recommended Rev-X for the breakin. Little pricey but whats another 60$. Mine cranked a full cycle then forces you to stop. then fired about 2/3 into the start second cycle made 60PSI instantly. shes got about 600 miles on her and about to change the oil out and cut open the filter.

With the recent change to CK-4 from CJ-4 and the reduction in ZDDP from 1200/1260 to 800/830, I would look seriously at adding in a bottle of COMP CAMS break in additive or LUCAS break in additive. ZDDP is the zinc and phosphourus which are the 2 high impact wear inhibitors in your oil. The EPA specs recently changed as of January 1st, 2017(Shell changed Rotella dino oils as ov November/16, but they didn't change the label to reflect until January 1st, 2017). The verdict is still out, but FORD has shunned the new specs, and came out with there own saying the lowered ZINC content does not provide adequite wear protection for the valve train. FORD MOTORCRAFT diesel oils still have higher zinc contents in them, or if you can luck out and find some old stock of CJ-4 oil made before November of 2016 it will still have the higher zinc content. Otherwise run some zinc additive in it like the gasser guys do with flat tappet cams for break in just to be safe.

Now that yinz mentioned it I remember adding some ZDDP for the first oil cycle.
