Default Questions about a steerable rear axle

Hi all, so I'm wondering how having a steerable rear axle on a crew cab long bed SRW will improve the steering angle on one of these trucks or if it would only have a noticeable effect on lifted trucks. The way I would go about doing this is by swapping the stock 11.5 14 bolt and replace it with a steerable 10.5" 14 bolt from ECGS, equipment it with a PSC double ended ram, and connect the ram to the optional ports on a Red Head steering box and upgrade the cooler to handle the extra flow. I'd probably run the lined along the inside of the driver's side frame rail and them have it run across the second most rear cross member on the frame, idk if I'd actually run it across there because I don't have a look at a frame other than on my truck and it's a GMT400 platform, not a GMT800.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help and info.

First off, the steering box will not run the ram like it needs too. Second is the stock pump will not flow enough volume to run the hydro boost, rear steer and front steering.

Your other MAJOR issue is the extremely dangerous operation this will cause going down the highway and making a lane change. The truck will be very very twitchy at speed unless you can turn off the rear steer.

This is all assuming you wanted a daily driveable truck

What were you planning to use to control the rear steer? The ports on the redhead steering box will supply pressure to one port when turning right and the other when going left, but doesn't control the amount of fluid. As soon as you start to turn it would go full lock, and then when you turn back it would go full lock the other way, with no way to center it.

If you're actually serious about this, do a search on pirate 4x4. Rear steer is mostly a rock crawler thing.

Exactly what I was thinking. Wasnt Q-steer a computerized system, too? I seem to remember they did have a 3/4 ton version, too. Ben would know everything about that.

Yes, it was computerized, AAM made the axle. It was basically an hd axle, it was very stout. The tires would turn opposite of each other under 20 mph and over they moved together but the rear wasn't proportional to the front it was about 30 at max steering angle. I loved my Denali quadrasteer, when it was working properly, the system was problematic . Mine locked up several times and I had to shut down the truck to reset the computer. I will say it could literally do a u turn on a two lane road and not touch the yellow lines...
