I did it with a 1 1/2 ton cherry picker. It is a bit of a hairball type activity.

Nope. My poor old HB engine hoist has lifted that combo many times in the past couple years. Just use a secondary chain onto the trans somewhere to help balance the weight.

I actually use a small chain "come a long". Anchor it to the main ring of the cherry picker, other end to a short strap (An old serpentine belt will work too) around the tailshaft. Adjust it as necessary.
