Default Pegged oil pressure gauge

2002 Duramax oil pressure gauge started bouncing and now reads way past 80#'s when running and just over 80#'s when off.

Check actual oil pressure with a scan tool or mechanical gauge and verify actual oil pressure reading, may be a bad sensor, but the stepper motor on the gauges are a very common fail point

Not on an 02. Probably the ending unit.

TheBac, do you mean the oil sending unit instead of ending? Not making fun, just verifying.

Stepper motors didn't start until 03 in full size trucks. Up to 02 they used air cores which rarely fail. I would suspect the oil pressure sender which is a black plastic sendi,g unit about 3 inches long and an inch in diameter screwed into the front lower drivers side of the block into about a 75 degree angle adapter. Be carefull replacing it as you can over tighten it, and crack the angle adapter. GM has discontinued them, so if you crack it, you're stuck looking for a used part that was only used for 2 years. It will have a single wire plugged into it. Unplug it and the gauge should peg over, ground it and it should read 0 oil pressure.

RockAuto has them in stock. Same sending unit as my Aurora had.
