View Full Version : LML Rear main leak?

Changed the oil on my LML this morning and saw what looks like a rear main leak. Do you guys agree?

Anyone know if this is covered under the 5 year 100k powertrain warranty? It's a 2011 truck with 87k miles on it, completely stock. I don't want to take it to the dealer unless I'm pretty confident I know what this is and that it will be covered, not interested in paying a "diagnostic fee" and having them tell me it's not warranty.

Iv resealed a ton of lower pans when I was at the dealer. I'd start there. It is covered.

Yep. Oil pan leak. Had to have mine done too. Dealership fixed it under warranty.

Bet the tech lables it as normal seepage...

Dealer has had it for a week. Says they see that it's leaking but can't find it's origin. Supposedly put dye in the oil and were driving it to try to get the leak to show itself. I was supposed to hear back from them Saturday but no call.

Pretty obvious to me that it's coming from inside the bellhousing, which I'm sure is why they can't see the origin.

We've had one leaking at the oil pan and one leaking at driver's valve cover.

James, it's at Midway.

Usually it wouldn't be warrantable until there was a drip.

Even if they don't fix it now, at least it's on paper that I brought it in for a leak and that they acknowledged it but couldn't locate the source. Might help later on after it's out of warranty.

Ive taken my single cab into the dealer for this same leak and the tech told me it was normal

Midway is usually pretty good about this stuff. hopefully they take care of you. I had some pull there a while back but have since lost touch with them.

They call it seepage...;)

Are you running synthetic oil?

One of my buddies works in the parts department there. Not that it means anything for service...

Seen several leaky lower oil pans on the early LML's and also leaking turbo drains, which would be easy to spot. Leaky rear main have not seen on an lml yet..

Got it back yesterday, ticket calls it seepage and says they could not pinpoint the leak. I'll just keep an eye on it and take it back if it gets bad.

Wonder if they know that seeping is oil coming out of the engine which I believe is a leak lol. I wouldn't be happy with that answer.

that sucks... try brake cleaning it all off and see how long it takes to come back. might give you a better trail to follow back too

Since they just claimed it as seepage this ^^ for sure will help you out in the long run. As long as it's documented you will be good.

No worries, I still have 2 years and 13k miles on the powertrain warranty. I'm driving about 5k miles a year, so that leaves 2 years left before I'd be on the hook for a leak. I'll just run it til it gets bad and take it back.

I bet the upper oil pan is leaking, we did lots of them when I worked at the dealer. Always seem to correct the issue!

You'll be pulling the engine and building it long before then. No worries for sure. :roflmao:

Just got mine back from dealer today. Looked the same....no drips, just seeping enough to make a mess down there. Thought it was rear main but just oil pan. They covered it.

Yea I had this problem too, didn't matter tho I had to pull oil pan no matter what cuz the F-tard that owned it before me F'd the drain plug up.. So I swapped the pan out and cleaned it all up.. No more "seepage"

Sub'd mines leaking in same spot. Hope the dealer will cover my deleted truck since it's a known problem.

Was that truck really purchased that late from a dealer?

I bought it new in Feb 2012. It's a 5 year / 100k PT warranty right? So it should expire Feb 2017.

Yup! Just making sure. We had a lot of customer's coming in getting declined because they just based the time off of the year of the vehicle.
