Almost thought I was out of the woods and smooth sailing the rest of my motor build...

Putting the pistons and rods in and luckily Schulte happened to look down the turbo oil feed and found that my machine shop managed to half F that up too.

The #4 cam bearing is slightly rotated, so the oil hole for the turbo is only half lined up. I would assume that the hole on the OTHER side, that feeds oil to the cam bearing would also be only half lined up, so the #4 cam journal theoretically isnt getting as much oil as the rest of them. Is this going to cause a problem? I know I could "just plug it off and pull oil from somewhere else on the block for the turbo" BUT I SHOULDNT HAVE TO BE STUCK WITH DOING THAT. Im using a stock turbo in the stock location and I want the GD thing fed like its fed from the factory.

Also, one of the cylinders had some odd scuffing on it, not really sure what it is, the machine shop said they honed it and it was fine, but who knows? It looks a lot worse in the pictures than it is, you can just barely feel it with your finger tip but not with finger nail. This is getting really frustrating. I finally got the heads and pistons done RIGHT by sending them out to Guy, do I need to send the friggin block to him too? Is it that hard to get these things right?

Ben , how maniy dmax's has your machine shop dealt with?? I know i pulled mine from a place here in my hometown and took it 2 1/2 hours away just because of crap like that . Sorry you are having this trouble, why don't you pack it up and send it down here to us , we can get it done for you right the first time:thumb:

I'm too not sure what to say except

Cool down overnight and weigh out your options later.

Look at the main journals in the block and see if the hole in the cam bearings are lined up with the oiling holes. You should also double check that the oil supply holes to the valve train in the 3rd cam bearing are lined up.

I would be cool if this was the first motor going in my truck, NOT THE FIFTH. I would be cool if this was not the 4th machine shop Ive dealt with, the third set of pistons ive had to PAY to have machined, the third set of heads ive had to PAY to be rebuilt/machined, and oh I dunno, other stuff too that ive had to do 4, 5, 6 times over because people are either A) stupid B) incompetent or C) both. I could probably write a book on who NOT to deal with for duramax parts, because ive dealt with them all unfortunately.

I think Im being incredibly patient for all of the BS I have gone through with putting these engines together. :)

For how much ive had to pay to do stuff over and over again, I could have paid Guy to machine an LBZ block, crank, and heads, put them all on a pallet and ship them ACROSS THE COUNTRY for me to do assembly, and still come out on top, having spent less.

The crank is already in it, but luckily I happened to take some pictures of before the crank went in, the other cam bearings arent "perfectly" lined up either, they are lined up about as well as the #4 bearing that feeds the turbo.

If you're really concerned, you can get a cam bearing tool and reinstall them.

no-can-do bud, ive got to get my truck going here at some point too and school kind of puts a damper on everything. Bradenton was a blast and I'd love to come see you guys and hang with Sonny again but there is just too much on the table right now. I will be pissed at myself forever if I cant get my truck done before Div 5 racing starts.

I want to get to TS if my finals arent on those days. I'm going to miss Indy unfortunately too, but the rest of the year I am game. Scheids is on the calendar, the other 2 Div 5 races, and the finals if even just to watch.

But back on topic....Ben needs to get this thing together so I have a tow rig/pit crew

Quite honestly, at this point im just going to put another stock motor in. Schulte has Kyles (dmaxfireman) old LBZ long block in my shop. Screw it, my truck has been sitting in the woods without an engine basically since the beginning of august, whats another couple weeks time to get the machine work done RIGHT, even though it will be the 5th time. They say 3rd times a charm. No, sorry, because the 3rd time was still shit for me.

I know I haven't seen a lot of these motors fresh from the machine shop but I'd be afraid of that cylinder. How far is Diesel Technology Source from Nashville, TN ?
