Anyone here have experience in tuning a sub to its box??

Im trying to make this sub (audiobahn awp310x) work in this truck. So far, I've found it wont fit under the rear seats, at least once a box is wrapped around it, or behind the rear seats. Too tall. I'm thinking that it may work if I build a box that looks like a center console in the back between the seats. That would give me enough room to fit the sub.....

My question though is this. According to audiobahns site, if the sub is to use a ported box, the port needs to be 2" by 10". Do I point the end of the port at the sub, at the front of the box, back of the box, where?? Would it better off with a sealed box?? Which sounds better??

Also, anyone else have a problem making a sub fit?? Where did you put it??

edit: the old box dimensions (shown - VVVV) were ~11"x10"x12". It sounded exceptionally good, even for its small size. Im just wondering if porting is even worth the effort.

thx

Decided to do my own under seat box. area marked in red is gonna be the top of the box and the red square will be pushed up to accomodate the depth of the sub....

basically a subthump box, but half the size and a third the cost. Once its carpeted, wont be able to tell the difference.

sealed boxes tend to go deeper. ported boxes are loudest at the resonant frequency of the port, like a pipe organ.

I prefer a sealed box.

Does location of the port inside the box make a difference??

I don't believe so. It never made a difference when I made boxes. ported enclosure is a 4th order.

That page kinda made my mind up.

Gonna stick with a sealed.... Looks like its too easy to run into problems tuning a sub in a ported box. thx again

Ready to get carpeted. Life got in the way of this project. Basically a subthump box but only 70% there..... for one sub. .85-.90cf of space in this one and it fits under dr side rear seat perfectly.

All done. Turned out clean and actually learned something new in the process. Appearantly the last guy I had hook this up wired it for a 4 ohm setup on the DVC sub with a single channel amp. I changed that to a 2 ohm setup because, according to jbl, at 4 ohms, the sub is only seeing 600 rms watts. At 2 ohms its seeing 1200, which is still under rated for the sub.....

I'm no electronics person, but that's the way I understood it.

However, after I got it all hooked up and tested it out, I thought I was gonna go deaf. I've never heard it this deep or loud before. Not sure if changing the wiring made the biggest difference or making the box almost twice the size of the old one, bit it sounds friggin WICKED!!

Thanks to mike for helping me with some wiring issues.

Heres what the finish looks like.
